Questions from our Customers:

Q:  I can get trip routing for free elsewhere on the Internet?  Why pay for this?

A:  First, try printing out one of those routes.  They look pretty bad on your home or office printer, right?  A CustomMaps Trip Plan is printed on a high quality laser printer, and the maps are sharp and clear.  We bind it for you in a booklet that will survive your whole trip.

Secondly, the driving instructions from the 'free' websites for a long trip are just too complex if you are taking a family vacation.  We include everything you need to make things clear and concise, and our accuracy is unmatched by any other service.  We focus on the major highways used for longer trips, and scenic routes that are actually scenic if you request that option. We give you driving directions that make sense, while also providing detailed maps with route highlights to make following the directions easy.  We have exit numbers, construction, main and alternate highway numbers, distances and estimated driving times.  You will get a trip plan with all you need to navigate safely and accurately.

Q:  I can get what I need immediately from the Internet routing sites.  I have to wait for a CustomMaps plan to be mailed to me.

A:  Well, that's right.  But we mail it the next business day after your order, and most plans arrive within two or three days.  Your CustomMaps Trip Plan will generally be 20 to 50 pages in length, with maps, directions, points of interest, hotels along your route where you can get discounted rates, and other information of interest.  We think you will agree that it's worth waiting for.

Q:  Is there anything about CustomMaps that's better than the 'free' sites?

A:  I'm sure you don't expect us to be totally objective, but a few differences are so clear we know you will agree that CustomMaps is better than any 'free' trip plan.  Our Points of Interest along the way are for things that are really near your route, and cover things  which are really interesting wherever you drive anywhere in North America (like museums, natural wonders, zoos and aquaria, interesting historical sites, and much more).  Nothing on the web is like that.  Our hotel lists are not sponsored by any chain.  They are actually near your route, we give you information about each hotel and motel in the list, and you get discounted rates.  You get our up-to-the-minute research on road names and construction, plus accuracy that is unmatched (we provide hundreds of thousands of routes a year to most of the major auto clubs in the US and Canada). We specialize in routes over 75 miles, and the directions we give you will both be correct, and also make sense!  (Try reading some of the 'free' routes out loud to someone else, and you'll know what we mean.)  And we include one or two full-color regional maps that cover your route, an 11 by 17 inch two-sided reference map in case you want to make changes or explore other places while you are driving.  There's more, actually.  You have to try it to believe all we do for you!

Q:  I don't like giving my credit card over the Internet.  And what if I don't like the CustomMaps product when it comes?

A:  We use Verisign for credit  card security.  Go the the Verisign web site to see why this is completely secure and safe.  We actually never see your credit card number when you place an order on the Internet.  If you would prefer, you can call our 800 number at no charge and we will take your card information over the phone.  But, bottom line:  when you get your CustomMaps Trip Plan, if you truly believe it is not worth the small fee we charge for printing and mailing, we will refund your money.  That's our guarantee!

Q:  Why don't you just let me download a CustomMaps Trip Plan right from your Web site?

A:  A CustomMaps Trip Plan is typically 30MB to 50MB in size, sometimes more.  It takes 30 to 75 pages to print everything we have for your trip.  For most people, a download this size just isn't practical today, and printing a document that long on a home printer wouldn't be economical.  Things might change in a year or so, but for today, letting us use our equipment to create and bind your trip plan produces the best travel planner we can imagine.  We're planning on delivering our technology online as soon as it makes good sense to do so!!
